[Chicago Astronomer - Astro Joe]

Here is one of Alan's first activities in astrophotography with his brand new 100mm Refractor.

Joe,

Great to see you again - that was fun. I am attaching the picture I took of the moon - it is taken with a canon digital rebel through the orion 100 apo without any eyepiece magnification or filter. It is saved at a medium quality JPEG.

It's quite a thrill capturing one's first image, and this one from Alan is a nice one. Perhaps Alan, you could share with us some of the detail behind the shoot, like: time, place ,exposure setting etc.

This was taken 1/25/05, with a full moon, at around 11pm, with the digital rebel, prime, exposure 1/640 of a second, iso 100. Used photoshop to convert to black and white and also to increase the contrast since it was a little washed out. Now that I look at it obviously I think I increased the contrast too much,
