My name is bill, I live blocks away from The Cell [aka Cellular Field or White Sox Park]. I was bitten by the astronomy bug back in 6th grade. My teacher had given me a book written by H A Rey on Finding Constellations [now available at the Adler gift shop for $10]. From the city, armed with an 8 x 30 binoculars [which I still have] I tried connecting the "dots" in the sky from my backyard. In 1983, my family was fortunate to take a trip to Southern China. After playing fireworks with a few friends one clear night, a huge constellation hit me in the head! It was Scorpius crawling around the Milky Way!! I couldn't believe the amount of stuff in the sky. The next day, with plenty of begging, my folks bought me a 50mm refractor. After making a little money on my own, I now own 5 scopes. Yep, it was a big bug bite. I've done enough solo astronomy. I can't wait to attend more star parties to share my passion.

What a great surprise and great welcome to the Chicago Astronomer!!
Bill is a fellow Telescope Operator at the Adler, has cool toys and I respect his astronomical knowledge. Pretty soon the entire Adler crew will be members!
I too have the Rey constellation book, and I appreciate that the reprinted book cover still maintains the "look" and era that it was printed in. Heh, you mean Scorpius has an actual outline? Hail Antares!
I invite Bill to join us in our mini star parties and impromptu gatherings by the Copernicus statue and other locales. Great fun and many sessions can be found here under the star party board.
Thanks for registering as part of the Chicago Astronomer family and for you first post...
