I have moved MicroNova's post regarding ancient rock carvings, depicting celestial bodies to here...
Sometime I would like to review with you some of the amazing star records I have found carved in stones in California. Some of them are like Morse code. The typical star record is usually a fixed constellation such as Virgo, with several dashes for the planet Jupiter, and a longer string of dashes for the traverse of Mars.
One interesting thing I found was a rock as I have just described and there was an arc above the constellation Virgo. I told my friends that it was probably the path of a visitor such as a comet. I told my friends that I have software to regress the stars and the planets. When I got Jupiter and Mars in Virgo low and behold Ceres popped into to the scene in Virgo! So my guess at least was close!
This is the kind of stuff that I find fascinating. The only person I really can converse with is Dr. Rappengluck in Germany. But I have been reading the rocks for about 6 years and they all seem to tell a story of a large meteor shower and cometary breakup.
I find this area interesting as well, but to mainstream astronomers, it borders on folly. I do believe that the ancients knew more than we give them credit for.
Tell us more on this discovery.

This one is my favorite ... this is from New Grange if memory serves - and it is a depiction of the Orion Nebula - something they couldn't see BTW. Dating is about 3000 BC.
