This movie about the start of the Manned NASA spaceflights is one of my favorites.
This is my favorite period of space exploration, where men were real men, pushing the envelope and doing what they must. Grit, clenched teeth and sweat is what made NASA great once, and this movie shows what that was like. Now weak spined, latte drinking mommas boys run the show. Sigh.
It's a bit long and they rather gloss over some of the Mercury missions, but it always brings a smile to my face when I watch it. Did Gus Grissom prematurely open the hatch to the capsule, evidence shows that he did. Poor Gus, later died in an Apollo 1 accident, perhaps he had bad mojo.
They do spend a lot of time on Glenn tho, but I guess he was the most charismatic of the bunch. And Yeager wanted to be a real pilot, and not just a "spam in a can" kinda guy.
