I thought I would post John's note I received recently about his viewing the Eagle Nebula at the Adler's Doane Observatory...

Hey fellow Astronomy enthusiasts:
I don't have everyone's email, but for those that I do, ... here's a little followup on last night's Doane observing.
Thanks to Larry for letting us hang out in the Doane again.
Larry and I took a set of pictures of the Eagle Nebula (M16 in Serpens). We hung out till about 2AM (and I didn't even get towed!)
It was amazing to see the form and detail within the nebula and the surrounding cluster. I learned more about the Maxim photo software and we talked about how filters can be used in the process of determining star temperature based on color.
It was so cool to relate that information to how they classify stars in the H-R framework (you know OBAFGKM). I only know the old acronym, Oh Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me ... but someday maybe someone will come up with a better way to remember that. I don't think One Big Adler Frenzy for Getting Kuiper and Messier images would quite catch on.
Sorry for those who missed the Eagle, but then, I can't quite top Joe's pictures with Jim Lovell. Thanks to Joe for displaying all our pictures and all that info on the ChicagoAstronomer Forum. I wonder if it would be ok to add some of the pictures from the Doane to Joe's site. I will have to ask Larry.
Anyway, it was fun to see all of you again. I look forward to doing that again soon.
John

Thanks John for the narrative.
I posted this without asking John first, but I don't think there's a problem with it.
All great fun!
