This August I'll will be attending (first time) the 70th annual Telescope Makers Convention "Stellafane" in Springfield, Vermont. I'm not really an ATMer, I tried unsuccessfully to grind my own mirror back in the 70's with only books to guide me. Still, this is the mother of all ATM gatherings and I'll probably go hog-wild peeking thru all the homemade scopes (not to mention the used-equipment swap tables!). Plus it's my first trip to New England (maybe I'll even get to see the Northern Lights for the first time). Quite a treat for a born and raised California kid.

Those who have browsed thru the Scientific American books "Amateur Telescope Making" will have heard of Stellafane and its founder Russell W. Porter.

I think it rather cool that you will be attending this event. The swap table will be exciting, I'm sure.

I won't be going, (I don't go anywhere), but I will live vicariously thru you.
