I captured a photo of a Half Moon peering above a thunderstorm about 3 minutes after sunset from my home in Arlington Heights, IL on 2003 JUL 06. It can be made into a desktop wallpaper.

I don't think there is anything more relaxing than sitting on the hood of your car at night in the middle of nowhere watching a lightning storm...as long as it is far away of course (my car is a big lightning rod). Great picture, and an interesting website.

That certainly is a nice image of the Moon peeking over angry storm clouds. Curt, what are the details behind that image? Camera, date etc....

I remember just a couple of months ago relaxing by the lakefront under deep clear skies, while watching a lighting storm out over the lake and over Indiana. Quite remarkable.

I'm glad the photo is appreciated. The digital camera was a Sony DSC-F717 Cyber-shot. As stated above, the scene was captured on 2003 JUL 06 about 3 minutes after sunset from Arlington Heights, IL. Numerous storm cells were moving through the area, as often happens near dusk in June and July. At the time the sky above me was fairly clear, but that storm could be seen a few miles to my south. While the Sun had just set for those of us on the ground, it still lit the top of the storm cloud.

I know that some people fear storms. But I'm with you guys; I too love the sight, sound and smell of a thunderstorm. And the dusk variety usually clears away quickly enough to unveil beautifully starlit summer skies.
