[Galaxy]

Galaxy here, signing in from Idaho. I'm a long way from the Chicago area but still enjoy the astronomer's newsletter. I live near Twin Falls where Evel Knievel failed to jump the Snake River Canyon on a rocket powered motorcycle. We have a nice planetarium connected to CSI. (No not the TV show...College of Southern Idaho) They have just purchased a new large telescope for the observatory there. I hope to attend many star parties in the future. I've got a lot to learn but the chart's in Joe's newsletter sure help. I hope to get to know you all here. Keep on postin'!

I envy Galaxie's dark Idaho skies. I would be out practically every clear night with the telescope if I had her skies. I have gotton so used to the orange muck that is Chicago skies, that I sometimes forget what a truly dark sky looks like.

On a business trip up to Lake Geneva Wisconsin, I had the opportunity to see quasi-dark skies, in that the stars and objects popped out all over the place! I did not have my telescope at the time, but my 10X50's showed me a great deal. I also took a visit to the Yerkes Observatory which was quite cool. At one time, home of the largest refractor and movable floor that takes the astronomer up to the eyepiece.

I know Galaxy from another site for over a year now, and she has been published in various publications. I look forward to reading her posts here at the Chicago Astronomer forum.

Hello Everyone,

Thought I would introduce myself. My name is Becky & I have been involved in Astronomy since I was 16 (I am now over the hill). Two years ago my husband built me a 10"F/4.8 Dob. I designed what I wanted it to do , painted it, and he built it for me. We had the scope at Cernan Space Center for the Mars madness and had a blast. We have added a camera and tv system so we can do live feed so that the handicapped can enjoy the Heavens. I am currently working on my Diploma in Astronomy. Hope to finish soon. I do star parties with the gentelman who did my mirror in Schaumberg, Ill and at Cernan Space Center. I am also involved with the NASA Night Sky Network, Class, (City Lights Astronomical Society for Studens) and other groups. To many to list. Have also been working on the Certificates from the Astronomical Society. I currently have two and working on about 5 others.

Just thought I would tell you all a little about myself.

Thanks for your participation and welcome to the family.

That is quite an impressive resume there, and equipment. Please provide some more detail on the types of auxiliary equipment, and I shall include them in our Quick List inventory.

Your experience shall add a lot to this forum.

Hmmm, I wonder if we've met before at the Cernan Center at Triton....

....oh and I may be picking up a nice scope soon from a friend he bought over 30 years ago and hasn't touched for over 20 of them.

My scope is painted Blue and is called it Ole Blue. When I was at Triton for the Mars events we had a table alongside the scope for the TV and the equipment Boxes. I am a member of the Cernan Earth and Space Center. When my husband and I decided to do live feed it was due to the fact I have a bad back and can not stand at the scope for a long time and plus some members of the Cernan Center are either on crutches or use a walker and we wanted to make it easier for them to view the Heavens. My Certs are for the Lunar Club and the Northern Constellation Hunters Club. I wanted to get the easy ones out of the way first. I am currently working on the Herschel 400, Messier and the Messier Bino, The Planetary Observers, and the Urban Club.
If I can be of any help here I will try. I saw this from another posting and liked the idea it was for Chicago Astronomers. If anyone has any questions please ask. I would post a pic of the scope but not sure where to put it.
