Fellow Chicago Astronomers...
I thought I would pass along a new members email to me, who is having a bit of trouble registering successfully.
good morning Joe
this is mahesh (we had contacts re m*a*s*h)
have tried to login under mahesh/radar.......no good, can't do it.....says.. username/password invalid combination
oh acknowledges my presence alright, but won't let me in.
so in the end registered under my surname .....PHERWANI and of course assigned me a random lettered password.
hey Joe it's ok ... i'll stick with it, please don't spend your time to simplify it for me, thank you anyway for doing it the last time.
i read up your background notes on your site. As you quite rightly say, even if the site is for chicagoans and neighbors, wonderful internet lets one access it from anywhere.
i live and work in london, england. i subscribe to 'universe today', run by FRASER CAIN, who lives in vancouver and the family have last week moved to vancouver island to courtnay. am sure you know about him and his site. well one day i was browsing through this and bumped into guess who ......... chicago astronomer!!! that's how i found your site.
well joe, living in london is fun, like anywhere else, but astronomically speaking, london has a downside. anywhere in scotland is better.
the weather in london (and around) is often overcast in summer and you can forget about it during autumn and winter.......ffffooogggyyy.
though i found M 31 (thru my binoculars, lying in damp grass, three am, middle of october 1984) i was shaking like crazy, was so excited.
i got my scope two years ago... meade etx90 and that's it. prices in london are a rip-off.
the dealers just swap the dollar sign for sterling plus a hefty mark-up ...... then it's out of reach of regular folks like you and i.
i have been buying 'astronomy' magazine from newsstands since 1981 i think. a brilliant publication!
i would love to buy another scope and hydrogen alpha filter, but again, the costs. may be i could come over states side
and invest there, since it's so much cheaper and the variety of products......is amazing.
joe thank you for your wonderful efforts to share with us, the beauty of the universe.
hope the skies are clear for the imminent full moon.
am sorry i'll miss your get-together in chicago. have a great time with your friends (and family).
wishing you all, clear skies!!!
au revoir
mahesh
Thank you Mahesh for the kind note, all the way from England. The internet certainly makes us all close collaborative astronomers.
I will work with Mahesh to get him on our Forum and posting. I think also that I will work on those locator maps. A pin on London is quite cool!
