Joint Public Star Party @ Rainbow Beach

The Chicago Astronomer crew and the Chicago Park District will conduct a joint public Star Party Friday, July 31st 2015 at Rainbow Beach (79th & LakeShore Dr.) at 8:00 pm and we will attend to our visitors till 10:00 pm.

We will share the urban skies and highlight Saturn and the Full Moon rise over Lake Michigan.  It will be a "Blue Moon", as this will be the second full Moon of the month of July.  Weather looks good and the temps comfortable.

Stop by and enjoy the celestial wonders, chat with Astronomers about the recent New Horizons mission to Pluto, the mysterious luminescent spots on the asteroid Ceres and explore the Moon's surface via telescopes.   Uncertain exactly where we will set-up equipment, but look for the flashing red light...that will be us.

It will be a good night and location to catch Luna rising over the Lake. Wish I could be there.

The Chicago Astronomer Public Observation session tonight is a solid go.

Moonrise will be at 8:12 pm and perfect to share views with fans and park visitors.  Popping on the variable polarizer filter on the C11, the view will not be blinding from the bright disk for our guests, bringing out nice details and impact ejecta ray structure.  (I always like the star-like pattern of Kepler crater).

We will also have a nice ISS pass during our session.
