It’s nearly time for my monthly naked-eye New Moon spotting challenge. Some North Americans may spot the one-day-old Moon after sunset on October 24. Others should have better luck the next evening.

Below is a photo that I shot from Arlington Heights, Illinois. The Moon was aged two days on 2011 OCT 28 at 18:18 CDT.
