This will be the Chicago Astronomer's fourth contracted year as the Resident Astronomer for the Chicago Park District. We are proud and honored to continue our partnership, eagerly navigating the urban skies for our park visitors throughout our city parks and sharing celestial wonders.  Travelling to different locations with the CPD has been a great experience for the CA crew, meeting new people and introducing astronomy to those who may not have access to telescopes or Astronomers to chat with.  

We have scheduled 7 public star parties for the 2014 CA/CPD season:

• Details will be posted in this thread for each event as the date approaches.

  Working with the CPD, we have established solid observing agenda events for our park guests and will also have a "Cloudy Sky" contingent with activities and demonstrations, but - will re-schedule for rainy conditions.

Vey cool that a solar observation is included for the summer solstice. I'm also guessing that since the October 23rd time has yet to be determined, that another daytime observation is under consideration, given that a partial solar eclipse begins that afternoon, and the Sun sets while the eclipse is in progress?

The schedule is still being tweaked, with some minor changes as the season progresses, but for the eclipse - I will work Adler scopes for the events.

(The April Lunar eclipse is a full after midnight to dawn event and the fall eclipse only provides a few scant minutes before ducking behind obstructions along the horizon.

We will probably change the locale for the Summer Solstice farther south to Grant or Lincoln parks.

Joe,

I don't remember what the tentative date was for that Washington Park observing session. I remember October, but I'm hoping it won't be when I'm out of town. I'm looking forward to coming out again and bringing my 10" Coulter this time.
