Mars now rises during the evening. Today, March 1, it commences apparent retrograde motion in right ascension. Opposition from the Sun will occur on April 8.

I've seen Mars maybe three times this year, but still waiting on a really good look.

Not a once...for quite a awhile really.

Mars, with such a tiny arc disk, is not at all what people think it will look like in a telescope. I dig spotting the ice cap and darker surface mottling...but often I have heard..."Is that all?"

I do employ filters to bring out the redness of the planet, which improves the experience.

But, we will make Mars part of our April 26th Park Dist/Chicago Astronomer session though....
