Solar Imaging with the C5

The weather forecast called for a totally cloudy day, but it felt like it was gonna be sunny. I loaded the van with the C5, (which I collimated using an artificial star - more on this in another post), the full C11 aperture white light filter and the CG mount...
At around 12:30 pm, the skies cleared a bit - and checking on my tablet for weather maps...I saw that a break was coming from the northwest.....and my chance to try out the C5 and see how it performs in solar imaging.
Popping in a 40mm 1.25" eyepiece...
Not bad....
Sunspot groupings 1165 & 1667 displayed nicely...
Using a yellow filter...
A red filter highlights different stuff...
..and a broadband filter opens up a different nanometer...
Back to non-filtered shots, but adjusting the white balance to "Cloudy"...
...and to Tungsten...

I tried out various 1.25" eyepieces during this testing session...
Starting out with a 40mm and going down the line with a 25mm, 17mm, 10mm and a 3.8mm. At the 17mm, I was starting to lose clarity and resolution - and just silly with the 3.8mm....pushing the limit of the little 5" scope beyond reason.
The C5 needs some little tweaking in the collimation, but after I take it apart to clean and flock. I have already ordered Bob Knobs for the scope and makes a great grab & go SCT.
Good shake out session in 12 degree weather.
