This news item was posted on the CBS News site yesterday, with a couple of errors. The first one was corrected and noted at the bottom of the page:

Let's see if they catch the second one? The moon image is one of Dione, a moon of Saturn not our Moon.

The original image with the Japanese flag showed the whole moon, making it obvious it was Dione.

It looks like CBS isn't the only news source not able to get things right with this story. Discovery News has the correct headline, even a picture of a Chinese astronaut with the caption "Next stop: Moon" but the accompanying story is about the Space Shuttle's next launch this July.

Good catch and archive of the bloopers.

Here is the corrected image of the Moon, finally put up by CBS.

It is a poor creation with the two images crudely joined and not massaged. But...at least it was corrected.

Maybe someone thought the Satellite Dione was more visually interesting and something different than our own Moon...or it was probably graphically created by a young intern unfamiliar with astronomy.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hire astronomers at all science publications I say!...
