Chicago will now look prettier.......at night?

Forget LEDs for now.

The orange glow of sodiums is giving way to the broad spectrum metal halides.

What better way for folks to see Chitown from above.

Guess someone really paid attention to the light pollution exhibit at Adler.

WTF??? And what was the purpose of switching to metal halide? Are they cheaper to buy, install or operate? I don't get it. Guess I'll start heading the opposite direction to Rockford for my urban astronomy. At least there they are actually turning off their street lights at night to save money rather than swapping them out for ghastly, glaring light bombs!!!

It wouldn't be o bad if the fixtures were fully shielded. Judging from the glare, I doubt that's the case.

Robbw, it would be interesting to see before and after nite shots of Rockford.

Paulie, the new metal halides are better shielded than the sodium "cobra" lites.

Hey if cars can have HIDs why not street lites.

Sure, city might save a few bucks; and the city streets at nite will look pretty.
However, it will be almost impossible now to filter out the broad light spectrum.
