I came across this webpage where engineers tested a model of the NCC-1701A enterprise in a wind tunnel. Go HERE to read about it.

It is quite an interesting experiment on the flight dynamics of the Enterprise. But I see two areas of concern...

One being that the ionized gas is buffeting off the front of the ship right on to the bridge! Think of the constant stress.

The other one is the gas is directed right into the deflector array from the bottom. In the real world (?), the deflector would create a buffer zone ahead of the ship, and the ion wave should be a bit wider and away from the bulk of the ship.
