NASA to Plan Hubble Servicing

April 29, 2005— NASA administrator Michael Griffin said Friday he would proceed with planning for a shuttle visit to the Hubble Space Telescope, despite a two-month delay in the fleet's return to flight.

The decision reverses the policy laid out by former agency administrator Sean O'Keefe, who decided in the wake of the 2003 Columbia accident that future shuttle missions would be routed only to the International Space Station, where astronauts could be sheltered in case their ship was too damaged to return home.

Griffin declared a proposed robotic servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope "off the table." He told reporters he would proceed with planning for the Hubble servicing mission on the presumption that it will pass muster following return-to-flight technical reviews.

Way to go Mike Griffin! Let's hope he repairs the damage imposed by O'Keefe the Incompetent, and hope for successful Shuttle missions. I like this guy more and more.
