It's rather amusing to come across promotions for telescopes and other optical accessories in rather silly, erroneous and down right ignorant ways and descriptions. If you find any on your own, send them in, or post them here...

The following are some that I have come across:



In this Doral cigarette ad, the man attempting to use the reflector would rather see his trousers than the alien pouncing upon him. Looks like a barlow in the focuser too. He won't be seeing anything of significance anytime soon.

In this time sharing get-away website, the author states that this is an "Astrological Telescope"! And to top it off, the reflector is pointing in the wrong direction.

I'm sure this misguided young child was all revved up to catch stars, comets and galaxies "Just like on the box", but no one instructed him on the proper usage of the instrument. Frustration sets in quickly when all you see is your face looking back at you.

In this French Series of playing cards, it displays an Astronomer "Un Astronome" using some sort of light projection for study. He seems to be manipulating a light control, but the practical usage of such a device is null. You could probably project an image of the Moon on to a sheet, but only in a darkened room and the image not too sharp and detailed.

Also, the Moon and some stars seem to be observed thru solid material and not thru the observatory slit . Other than that, the victorian furnishings look quite comfortable.
