I was contacted by a student from the Medill School of Journalism in Chicago recently, as he was doing a a piece on Urban/Chicago astronomy. I invited him to join us on our Full Moon Rise session last month, as we would be setting up scopes to enjoy the monthly treat.
I met Spencer by the Adler Planetarium's south lawn where we were set up and showed him around the scopes and had a running dialog with him. A very nice man and we had a good time talking. He's invited anytime in joining us for our sessions.
Also with great input were Fellow Chicago Astronomers, Steve Dombeck, Linda Saucedo and Paulie Christman.

The group, aptly called the Chicago Astronomers, gather monthly or for any celestial excitement such as a meteor shower.
Some are ambassadors to NASA, others political consultants, some work in retail during the day. But each are dedicated to bringing a greater knowledge of the cosmos to the people of Chicago. And families, interested stargazers and the occasional runner soon joined them for their recent viewing party.
“We get together, informally, with our telescopes, and share it with the public,” said Joseph Guzmán, administrator and founder of the Chicago Astronomers,“We just enjoy having a look at the night sky.
